Rethinking the Digital Museum
This lecture addresses the need to rethink the museum in light of the impact of digital technologies. It will suggest to refer to these technologies not only as a means to enrich the museum experience and to optimize its operating systems, but as an outcome and a generator of a changing society that requires new conceptual and systemic thinking about the role of the museum in the current reality. The lecture focuses on ways in which new technologies effect the manners in which knowledge is organized, mediated and consumed in the museum and on the ways they are being influenced by the new forms of interaction within the museum’s physical and virtual spaces.
